We seek all information on Arthur Newman, he was Master of the SS. Peerless which was torpedoed and sunk in 1917 and was taken on board the U-52 and was taken around Ireland and Scotland and eventually ended up in a POW camp in Brandenburg.
Peerless, 3,112grt, defensively-armed, 4 September 1917, 60 miles SW from Bishop Rock, torpedoed without warning and sunk by submarine, 2 lives lost, Master and two gunners prisoners
Also, the same required for his brother, Harold Newman. He was serving on the SS. Warrior and was lost in action 21/04/1917, Some 7 miles from Fratelli Rocks, Tunisia.
WARRIOR, 3,674grt, defensively-armed, 21 April 1917, 7 miles N from Fratelli Rocks, mined and sunk, 1 life lost.
