Barry man’s convoy medal
The Medal of Ushakov was awarded to Mr David Simpson at a ceremony in Barry on February 10.
Mr Simpson received the honour from the Russian Federation for his participation in vital supply convoys during World War Two.
The Arctic Convoys became a byword for heroism as Allied seaman delivered essential supplies to the Soviet Union’s northern ports, combating freezing conditions and treacherous seas.
