Have only just seen this thread. My dad, Kenneth Raymond Holmes , survived the sinking and was awarded the King's Order for brave conduct on the ss Dayrose. Does anybody have any further info about this. My dad is now deceased and I would like to find out as much as I can. Regards Jean Did you find out anything. Grandfather was William hockborn third engineer. |

HOCKBORN, Third Engineer Officer, WILLIAM, S.S. Dayrose (Cardiff). Merchant Navy. 14th January 1942. Age 40. Son of Edward and Elizabeth Hockborn; husband of Ada Hockborn, of West Hartlepool, Co. Durham.
