The ‘Cock of the channel'. The paddle steamer Gwalia and her sister ship Devonia were built at John Browns’s shipyard at Clydebank in 1905, along with famous transatlantic ships. The Red Funnel Fleet consisted of paddle steamers Gwalia, Devonia and Westonia, complemented in 1907 by the Barry. The last mentioned ship was the subject of a fascinating article in The GEM a few months ago. LINK
