Re: Waverley Though she is dear to many, my home town's connection is well known. The earlier Waverley was moth balled on the South coast between wars, our PS Barry conducted her duties in peacetime and bore her name. The PS Waverley was needed for Dunkirk and sailed under her own title but, was sadly lost. The PS Barry sailed as HMS Snaefell, though she survived the encounter was sadly lost later in an air attack off the North coast. The present Waverley will hopefully, be able to sail again. A reminder of both pleasure sailings and those lost at sea in wartime. Waverley sailings cancelled amid fears for the paddle steamer's future
