August 15, 1945, was the day news reached New Zealand that Japan had surrendered and World War 2 was over. Last week in the Otago Daily Times, a former merchant seaman, 86-year-old Lou Barron, of Dunedin, recounted how he came to be a Japanese prisoner of war. He continues his story.LINK
