The Merchant Navy: The Fourth Service.
I feel I must point out that while it was right and proper to give praise to the Armed Forces
of the Second World War during VE and VJ Day, I notice the little or no notice was given
to the Merchant Navy.
Without these gallant men and women, those fighting could not have been victorious, it was
these people that transported men and goods under extreme danger, with many in unarmed
ships.
It should also be said that Churchill declared that they be known as the Fourth Service and
be accorded the same status as the other services.
