Island Nations - Home far from Home ...
The Merchant Navy is often referred to as "The Forgotten Fleet". As "Island Nations" we, Britain and Australia, still depend on the Merchant Navy to deliver bulk cargo. Our "home fleets" are deminished (compared to the wartime Merchant Fleet), but we do still rely on bulk goods being shipped by sea.
During wartime some vessels were fitted with defensive arms (guns) that were crewed by trained gunners.
