VIA: Western Approaches HQ - The Battle of the Atlantic ExperienceOn this day in 1945, the final Atlantic convoys arrived in Liverpool. Convoys HX357 and CU72 had started their journey in New York in late May and had travelled mostly unhindered across the Atlantic. A total of 1,285 convoys had arrived in Liverpool since the outbreak of war, an average of a four every week. Liverpool had been at the very epicentre of the convoy system throughout the war and had played a huge part in keeping Britain in the war.
