I would imagine that especially on Sea Sunday in Kinsale this year that all will remember Tim O Brien. Tim died recently and was buried about a week ago. He had been suffering from cancer for the last few months. There was a huge crowd at his funeral and members of the Kinsale Town Council and the Harbour Master helped to carry his coffin for part of the way to the cemetery.
He was very much involved in bringing Barry (Wales) & Kinsale (Co. Cork, Eire) together in friendship.
A similar Pact of Friendship exists rather than just with the two Town's between the Kinsale Harbour Board Commission and fishing Community and the Merchant Navy Association (Wales) Barry Branch.
Tim has Crossed the Bar but shall be forever remembered.
Tim has always been integral in the uniting of both towns.
Quote: Then Kinsale Mayor, Tomas O Brien : "Many a young Kinsale man left to go to Barry, which to them was the gateway to the world. For some it was the first time they had left their native town, and their families survived on the money they sent home. "Some settled in Barry and have families there today. Many others died in the wars while serving in both the Royal and Merchant Navies." This is Barry. Thursday 1 September 2005
Members past and present tribute Tim or now are together at Fiddlers Green.
"Wrap me up in me oilskin and blankets No more on the docks I'll be seen Just tell me old shipmates, I'm taking a trip mates And I'll see you someday on Fiddlers Green"
Nos Da Tim.
