A SPECIAL service marking the seventieth anniversary of the ending of the Arctic Convoys took on an extra poignancy as the congregation prayed for those caught up in the Paris massacre.
A plaque marking the anniversary was unveiled outside Enfield civic Centre.
Wartime Prime Minister Winston Churchill described the convoys which ran from 1941 to 1945 as “the worst journey in the world”. They risked attack from German submarines, warships and aerial bombing which destroyed 85 merchants ships and 16 naval vessels.
