The names of the crew who died were transcribed from a photograph of a part of the Merchant Seamen’s WWII memorial at Tower Hill, London by the daughter of Captain T R Tippett.

Hope abandoned for safety of small British freighter “Kervegan” when “Cape Agulhas” reported picking up wreckage.

SS Kervegan, 2,018grt, (MOWT, Evan Thomas Radcliffe & Co. mngrs) had sailed from St. John's, New Brunswick to Halifax, Nova Scotia on 17th January 1941 with a cargo of pulpwood. The ship left Halifax on 8th February in the Liverpool bound 32 ship Convoy SC-22. The following day a distress message was picked up from Kervegan in position 43' 40N 61' 33W stating the ship was capsizing. No more was heard from the ship and her entire crew. Wreckage and bales of pulpwood later washed ashore off Nova Scotia. The ship was officially registered as missing by Lloyds 30th April 1941.
