A Night of Heroes: The Sun Military Awards:
A Night of Heroes: was broadcast on ITV from 9:00pm to 10:30pm on Monday, 16 December 2013.
The brave men and women who serve at home and abroad were honoured in this gala evening that celebrated and commemorated the British Armed Forces. The 'Millies' also featured a glittering array of stars from stage, screen and sport as they joined together to honour the very best of British. Phillip Schofield and Amanda Holden hosted the ceremony, which took place at London's National Maritime Museum last month, and 10 heroes were honoured with awards, which had been judged by a panel including Jeremy Clarkson, Andy McNab, Lorraine Kelly and a host of top military brass.
The ITV awards program featured a section on the Atlantic Convoys Jeremy Clarkson and Carole Vordeman presented the award to six of the Atlantic Convoy Veterans representing the many that did not return. Clarkson said that in his opinion the men who sailed in the convoys were the bravest men ever.
During this Year of the Convoy (2013) much MN awareness has been raised and tribute paid, the Night of Heroes and an award for the Merchant Navy is another achievement and commemoration of the bravery and sacrifice of the heroes of the MN.
