THE LAST POST.
I’ve Listened at the Menin Gate,
I’ve heard it on parade,
It’s sounded over many ships,
And barracks` palisade.
The bugle or the trumpet,
Convey the silver notes,
Rolling over graveyards,
And duty it emotes.
Compelling is the symbol,
Here and overseas,
Gripping at the heart,
A weakening of the knees.
For sure I think of heroes,
The injured and the lost,
Incredible the number,
Beyond belief the cost.
The playing of the Last Post,
With humble due respect,
Is our salute to heritage,
In freedom we expect.
