Modest war veteran awarded medal for Arctic missions by RussiansA 93-YEAR-OLD Dunkirk survivor added one more medal to his collection yesterday after being awarded one of Russia’s highest honours for his service during the Second World War. Ivor Frost braved the bitter chills of the Arctic during seven years of dedicated service to the navy which he joined in 1939 at age 17 despite being unable to swim. He was presented with the Ushakov medal on behalf of the Russian Embassy at the Orchid Care Home in Haydon. LINK
