Two-minute silence at Merchant Seamen's Memorial The Vale of Glamorgan Council is supporting the Royal British Legion and its nationwide observance of a two-minute silence on Armistice Day. At 11am on Tuesday, 11 November, the public are invited to join Vale Mayor Cllr Audrey Preston, staff from the Civic Offices and political leaders at a short service at the Merchant Seamen’s Memorial. Following the service, Cllr Preston, along with leading councillors, representatives of local organisations and individuals, will lay wreaths.
Anyone wishing to attend is asked to assemble at the Civic Offices forecourt at 10.50am. The start and end of the silence will be marked by the playing of the 'Last Post' and 'Reveille.' Cllr Preston, who appealed for the people of the Vale to support this year's Poppy Appeal "as generously as they have in the past," added: “I hope as many people as possible will join me to remember the sacrifices made by the armed forces in order that future generations are able to live in peace and freedom."
