The History of Penarth Dock. The 150th anniversary of the opening of the Penarth Dock for the export of coal to most places on planet Earth was on 10th June 2015. Penarth was a small port in comparison to Cardiff, Newport and Barry but nevertheless highly efficient and profitable for its owners, the Penarth Harbour, Dock and Railway Co. and the Taff Vale Railway Co. who leased it for 999 years. Follow the story from the days when Brunel's son was involved and Charles Darwin invested in the venture, through the last 150 years and judge for yourself if these docks deserve to be recognised as an important element in the heritage of South Wales and of a bygone age when Britain was Great and truly was the powerhouse of our World.
