July 5th 1941: The paddle steamer that was built for and named after our town in 1907 was sunk, with the loss of her then Royal Naval crew members. She saw service in two World Wars. She was lost on July 5th 1941 during a then enemy air attack off the North East coast. Anyone that has been invited and will be attending the tribute on Tuesday, 5. THIS WEEK, are reminded, we meet from 10.30 - 10.45 am at the Central Library, Kings Square. It is suggested that we meet near the static display near reception. The Vale mayor's PA will usher us through for an 11.00 commencement. I will e.mail all further. She will be also be mentioned in dispatches during Sea Sunday, July 10th at the Seafarer's Anchor Memorial at the former Dock, now The Waterside. K.
