Ron's bravery on the Arctic Convoy is honoured with Russian Medal.A UTTOXETER man who bravely took to the seas during the Second World War has received a military medal from the Russian Embassy. Ron Buckingham, of Windsor Road, said he was surprised when he received a letter stating he was being awarded the Medal of Ushakov for his efforts in the Arctic Convoys which supplied Russia with essential supplies during the war. The 92-year-old, who insists he is not a war hero, spent four years serving on the seas on many ships, including HMS Duke of York, HMS Anson, HMS Nelson, HMS Campania, HMS Furious and the HMS Kent. He was still just a teenager when he was called up to play his part. LINK
