Seafarers’ Service September 2, at Barry, South Wales.
THE Merchant Navy Association (Wales) Barry Branch would like to announce that a Seafarers’ Service will be held on Friday September 2, this year.
The local tribute is open to all organisations and others. It is especially hoped that family members of serving and former members of the Merchant Navy, Royal Navy and the Royal Fleet Auxiliary will also attend.
The Service will be held at the Merchant Navy Monument, Barry at 11am. The provisional date for next years’ service is September 3, 2017.
In holding a Seafarers’ Service, we acknowledge the vital role played by the Royal Navy and the Royal Air Force in convoy duties, also all those who follow the calling of the sea, deep sea fishermen, the life boat service etc.
The presence of Branch Standards will be greatly appreciated at the service. The order of procedure being:
The Merchant Navy Associations, The Royal Navy, The Royal Air Force, The Royal British Legion and all other standards.
A branch wreath will be laid during the service at the Merchant Navy Monument. All other organisations are welcome to lay wreaths at this event.
We hope that you will continue to support and assist us in helping us to ensure that this is once again, a successful event.
Merchant Navy week in Barry will include a static Merchant Navy display at the Central library, The red ensign of the Merchant Navy being flown on Merchant Navy day. A branch visit to Swansea for a Wales Commemoration, a Merchant Navy presence at the Barry at War event and a presentation on board the Waverley remembering our town’s heroic paddle steamer the PS Barry.
