We are saddened to announce that the historic gold medal awarded posthumously to the coxswain of the Penlee lifeboat the Solomon Browne is missing - we are appealing to the public for any information that will help its return. The gold gallantry medal, which is the highest award for bravery issued by the RNLI, is one of the most precious artefacts in our heritage collection. It was recently found to be missing from a secure heritage store in our head office in Poole. Despite an extensive search the medal has not been found and Police have been notified of a suspected theft. Anybody with any information about the medal’s location is urged to contact Dorset Police quoting incident number 02:136, or to contact us directly. More information can be found here: LINK
I am broadcasting the following:-
Regarding The RNLI gold medal posthumously awarded to William Trevelyan Richards that has gone missing.
Someone has got themselves in a potential pickle. I am sure they have realised how upsetting it is for the RNLI and especially the Penlee family and are most likely regretting taking the medal for whatever reason they did, and have realised that it has no rea lworld potential value for resale as the word is spreading fast about it's loss.
To that person: Do the right thing, please. if you are scared about the consequences I have a solution.
Regardless of what people want I think the return of the medal out weighs all.
Therefore I will be a point of call for you, I am in Manchester so away from Penlee and Poole. You can message me on here, email me at rnlimanchester@outlook.com from an anonymous computer or text me on 07812710142.
If you do this I will send you my address to send the medal, I will even cover the cost of you sending it registered, I will then personally deliver the medal to either Penlee or the RNLI at Poole.
I will post any and all details on here as it happend but I promise I will not try to trace you or reveal any info, lets just get the medal back home please.
You can do this, it's the right thing to do.
