MERCHANT NAVY DAY
September 3rd Every Year
In those Day’s to what a cost,
another heroic lady, a vessel lost:
Her badly fractured body failed -
no known grave for many that sailed.
So many tons on the Ocean floor,
So many men going home no more.
“Under the sea and far away”,
Remember all on MN Day!
No uniform for these brave
men, despite the losses, they
sailed again.
A Silver Badge simply worn,
these are the men that we should mourn.
Never did a ship fail to sail,
although the dangers would not curtail.
A Country called and they obeyed,
remember them this Merchant Navy Day.
A call to board was received,
unknown was the bravery they’d conceived,
No military dress would prevail,
these good men would outward sail.
The King and leaders knew the plight
and depended on the Merchant fight,
Without these men and great cost,
our Great Nation, could be lost.
Many knew this may be their lot,
they simply asked not to be forgot,
Leaving loved ones far behind,
they did their bit to see us fine.
We would have starved,
a Germanic plan,
without our very MN man.
Without the goods that we depend,
war would be lost, all would end.
On this Commemoration Day,
remember those lives given
away,
Remember the many no longer here,
those that sailed, forgetting fear.
The old steel ladies and the men,
never to return to home port again,
A Battle for Britain, a nation to
save, supplies badly needed
from over the wave.
Remembered men at Tower
Hill, honour those that would and will.
I offer thus a simple prayer to
Merchant Seamen everywhere.
Allied brothers and also sons,
even ladies and young ones,
Father, son and holy ghost,
forever watch over, these the most.
As began there was hardly a day,
a Merchant ship was not blown away,
Please, look down upon them
and save, our very brethren of the wave
A simple tribute I do plea, to all
in peril on the sea,
It is so important to remember, a
tribute on the 3rd of September.
For those that simply can pass by,
for those that do not care,
For those that simply have forgot,
they have a life elsewhere!
For those that may have never
known or even steer away,
Please spare a thought especially
on this Merchant Navy Day.
Whether lost in enemy action,
torpedo, gun or plane,
The effect on those left behind,
would never be the same.
Bad enough to lose a loved one,
but was it all in vain.
They perished to save a Nation,
THE ENEMY HAVE THE BLAME.
Many in conflict, sailed across
the sea All they ask was
“Remember Me”.
Beneath the Ocean, some remain,
A Merchant Force, (in prayer) at home again.
