Search launched to find war veterans on Arctic convoys to present them with Russian medal
The Russian Embassy is desperately trying to find the last 150 veterans from the Arctic Convoys who worked tirelessly in freezing temperatures as the Germans tried to stop supplies getting to Russia. More than 3,000 people died during the treacherous convoys and so the Russian Embassy is awarding all surviving veterans the Ushakov medal to thank them.
More than 3,000 people have already been given the medal and there are just 150 left to find. A spokesman from the Russian Embassy said: "Today, the Russian Embassy is still looking for other veterans and it is very important to find them as soon as possible, as each day in their age might be crucial.
