PLEASE TAKE NOTE: APPARENTLY ?
Only holders of a MN Veterans Badge can march at the London Cenotaph Memorial Parade,(or any Armed Forces Day) and as we are getting fewer and fewer ships and subsequently personnel and less conflicts in which the MN will be involved we need to do something to keep our name alive before the public on these State occasions because we will surely disappear from the surface of the earth and the efforts of our fellow seafarers in WWI, WWII and other conflicts will be forgotten. There will always be an Army, an Airforce, RN. but past and future Govts are making sure we are no longer needed by authorising unmanned merchant vessels. So ALL holders of MN Veterans badges please register your names and service with
Derek Bristow at info@merchant-mariners.co.uk
We need to do all we can to keep the sacrifices made by our colleagues forever in the memories of an apparently uncaring Govt and public.
Derek runs a purely voluntary service and his doing his best to keep the MN alive so he does not have a record of all MN guys or those who were awarded the Veterans Badge, I believe he has found about 70% of veterans, but some of course too old/ill to attend any parades, so thought I would try and help.
