Ken receives rare honour
Ken Brown, 95, has been presented with the Arctic Star by Royal Australian Navy chief Vice-Admiral Tim Barrett.
A Barooga man, is one of only five living Australian recipients of a British defence medal for veterans who served above the Arctic Circle in World War II.
Ken Brown, 95, was presented with the medal by Royal Australian Navy chief Vice-Admiral Tim Barrett onboard HMAS Cerberus on November 25 last year.
Governor-General Sir Peter Cosgrove and HMAS Cerberus captain Stephen Bowater were also at the ceremony.
Mr Brown served in the RAN for 36 years, enlisting when he was just 16 on March 22, 1938.
He served 13 years on the lower deck as a sailor and the rest as an officer.
He received a commission and eventually retired as a lieutenant commander.
