Victory in Europe Day, also known as VE day or just V Day, was first celebrated on 8 May 1945 to mark the end of World War II in Europe.
It marked the formal acceptance of Nazi Germany’s unconditional surrender of its armed forces.
Nazi Leader Adolf Hitler committed suicide on 30 April that year, during the Battle of Berlin
