THE MERCHANT NAVY WAS THERE EVERY DAY
About 250 people from many faiths and nations came to the Guildhall Square in Southampton on MN Day to acknowledge their connection to a generation of Merchant seaman who sacrificed in war. Then they ate food provided by free by 5 different faith groups and shook hands and enjoyed the sun. A good day.
People were asked only to acknowledge those members of our families and our nations that served in the Merchant Navy in World Wars and the Falklands. This was Multi Faith with food provided by Hindus, Sikhs, Muslims and Christians. This Hands of love event also said thank you to police, fire and health staff that kept us safe at home.
There were no uniforms, just unity and peace which is all any seaman would have asked for. Multi faith MN Commemorations will continue around the country on Merchant Navy Day. September 3 EVERY YEAR.
