Established in 1861 and covering part of the Bristol Channel, Penarth Lifeboat Station operates two inshore lifeboats, a B class Atlantic 85 and a D class. I popped into the Penarth Lifeboat Station shop today and presented an RNLI flag for the use of the station. This RNLI flag was probably a gift to my late father from Kinsale, Coutmacsherry (Southern Ireland) or Barry (Wales) I have of late gifted both a red and white ensign to a museum in Canada, a red ensign of the British Merchant Navy to the RBL Paris: this year the Red Duster will take part in the 11/11 Remembrance Service at Notre Dame for the first time and several old red dusters to a Barry Sea Scout group. Today, was the about finding a good use / purpose to another item from my late fathers belongings. I am certain he would have approved. K. A Red Ensign of the Merchant Navy was flying from the promenade at Penarth.

Keith, Many thanks for your gift, it will be used in support of RNLI activities. I am sure he is approving of all that you have done with his flags. It was interesting to read of your dad’s life story and other relatives who served in the merchant navy. Thanks again, Laurie Pavelin Chairman RNLI Penarth
