The Arctic Convoys of WWII to be remembered in a ‘Tribute Walk’ on May 9
Winston Churchill called it “...the worst journey in the world”.He was referring to the route taken by the Merchant and Royal Navies of the Arctic (or Russian) Convoys, which supplied materiel to the Soviet Union during World War Two. For a number of years, the Russian-speaking community in Cardiff has organised a ‘Tribute Walk’ on May 9 – Victory Day (the end of the Great Patriotic War, one day after VE?Day) – to honour their relatives who died in the war. “We would like to invite WWII veterans and their family members to this year’s Tribute Walk. We are aware that in Cardiff, the Vale, and Bridgend and surrounding areas there are a lot of family members of Russian Convoy veterans. “We also invite anyone who would like to support the event, which begins at 5pm at the Gorsedd Gardens by the National Museum.” Wreaths will be laid at the war memorial in Alexandra Gardens during the 30-minute walk.
