Tomb of the Unknown Warrior
Re: Royal Wedding Meghan's bridal bouquet was placed on the tomb of the unknown warrior at Westminster Abbey in royal tradition. It has been placed at the bottom of the grave and will stay in place until it wilts. The tradition was started by the Queen Mother in 1923 after she married the Duke of York, who went on to become King George VI. Diana would have been proud. Commonwealth War Graves Commission
Following the Royal Wedding on Saturday the Duchess of Sussex yesterday sent the bouquet she carried during the ceremony to Westminster Abbey in order to rest on the grave of the Unknown Warrior. A year ago this week it was a Commonwealth War Graves Commission wreath that was placed on the grave to mark the Commission’s centenary – with the Imperial War Graves Commission being established by Royal Charter on the 21 May 1917.
