D Day landings
Don’t forget the role of Merchant Navy
We have now arrived at the 70th anniversary of the D Day landings, so lets not overlook the role of the Merchant Navy.
People to this day don’t seem to be aware of the role that the M.N. played in the theatre of war.
On the lead up to ‘D’ Day and the landings on 6th June 1944 over 800 merchant ships and 30,000 merchant seamen took part in this very important operation. No wonder Mr Churchill called the M.N. the 4th service.
