Seafarers Ale
Charity ale goes year round
I was delighted to find that Fuller, Smith & Turner P.L.C. London’s last remaining traditional family brewer, has added Gales Seafarers Ale to its year-round range of cask ales. Gales Seafarers is brewed to 3.6% ABV and is a delicious, thirst-quenching ale. The brew uses the finest quality English malt and hops along with the unique Gales yeast. Admiral hops continue the nautical theme and add to Seafarers’ fresh, bracing aroma.
Quote: “Gales Seafarers has built up a strong following in its time as a seasonal beer and I’m delighted that in response to demand from drinkers and very positive feedback from our customers, we can launch Seafarers as a permanent addition to our range. I am also pleased that we are able to continue our strong links with Seafarers UK, whereby £3 from every barrel sold will go to this great cause”.
“Over the last two years we have raised over £8,000 to help people who have worked at sea, including serving and former members of the Royal Navy, Merchant Navy and fishing fleets and their families." John Roberts, managing director of the Fuller’s Beer Company.
A beer that can help raise even more funds for the many thousands of seafarers in distress." £3 from every barrel sold will go to help people who have worked at sea, including serving and former members of the Royal Navy, Merchant Navy and fishing fleets and their families. Gales Seafarers Ale was launched into Fuller’s permanent cask range in April, with a donation of a recently announced £5 per barrel sold being made to Seafarers UK, the UK’s leading maritime charity. This apparently due to the great tasting beer, superb branding and charitable aspect having all come together to create a compelling package and our Fullers own pubs and the free trade taken it to their hearts.
A cheque for £5,000, the first of many has been already presented:
Commodore Barry Bryant, Director General, Seafarers UK, said: “It was a great pleasure to be invited to the Griffin Brewery to receive the cheque to mark the sale of the first 1,000 barrels of Seafarers Ale. “£3,000 would have gone a long way to helping seafarers and their families in need, so Fuller’s decision to increase their donation per barrel, making the cheque £5,000 instead, was a fantastic, and very welcome, surprise.
“We are overjoyed at how Fuller’s and their customers have really got behind this beer and we look forward to celebrating the next milestone in the near future.”
John Roberts, managing director of the Fuller’s Beer Company, has aid: “Gales Seafarers Ale is a fantastic beer, brewed to an old recipe from the Gales brewing book.
"We're delighted to carry on the tradition of supporting our nation's seafarers, and I personally can't think of a more enjoyable way to do your bit for charity."
Seafarers UK chairman, Surgeon Vice-Admiral Ian Jenkins, said: “I am thrilled that Fuller’s is supporting the work of Seafarers UK by producing this delicious new ale.
"The money raised from the sale of every pint will mean a great deal to those people who have devoted their lives to working at sea and who have fallen on unfortunate times.
"As an island nation, we depend on seafarers for our defence, food and consumer goods. Many elderly, injured and homeless seafarers, and their families and widows, now rely on charitable help. By buying a pint of Seafarers Ale you are personally contributing vital aid to those in need."
