AN UPDATE:
"Remembrancetide 2009"
"Remembrancetide", the period from the appeal's launch until Remembrance Sunday
(12 November this year, as it is always the second Sunday in November).
I do believe that when wearing a poppy, a little care should be involved, Please, unless in Scotland where the leaf is not included, but they remember no less, I ask that you may point the leaf towards 11.00 out of respect.
It seems that many on TV are just handed or have pinned on a Poppy for both free and for effect. Bit like a wedding, I am actually hopeful that I am wrong on this, but would be nice to see the poppy adorned with care and if there is no protocol, lets start one. Television presenters and MP’s etc could show they are genuine with an 11.00 leaf.
If this never becomes the norm as I am assured by many that it is or should be, am also assured that the main way to wear a poppy is with pride.
Apparently, the floor manager ensures an assistant pins a free Poppy on the celeb, prior to going on air. Hence my call for an 11.00 fern liaison. Although the only requirement is to wear it with pride, would be better believed if said presenter, displayed a poppy leaf at 11.00, rather than Ad-Hoc as it seems to be, almost in a not caring – Celeb way.
Watch your fave on TV, your MP etc. I paid for mine and wear with pride, certain their intentions are honourable. Join the 11.00 Poppy campaign or droop as many seem to do.
Poppy 11/11. Simply point the green leaf to 11.00, if you wish to show you really care in the media and beyond.
The poppy is bought on the high street, if TV land paid, although a donation may be made, please show you understand better: Your media poppy may be free and I guess you would pay anyway. But, look to celebrities to adorn it, in a way, that means more to all.
Poppies in the media, adorned and worn at 11.00, would make me think that the media cares.
When you’re PA pins on your free Poppy, at least ask them to point the leaf to eleven and show us you do actually care. The leaf at 11.00 is a request only, to wear with pride is a must.
PLEASE: A leaf set at 11.00, is not an appeal but may show you simply remember and care.
A spokesman for the Royal British legion said: "People can wear them when they like and where they like. We're just grateful and thankful to the millions of people who wear them with pride."
10.55 may keep remembrance alive, not a protocol, but a worthy way to wear your -
POPPY WITH PRIDE.
I remember being told by a vet of old, in my home town of Barry, in South Wales at an “Remembrance event “that I was improperly dressed, as my leaf was drooping.
I told him it was not drooping, but pointing, towards the many of the “Forgotten Service” The Merchant Navy with no known grave but the sea, I was being quick and a little smart and apologise for that, but in reality it is true. “LEST WE FORGET”. Thank you Hayden.
“NOS DA”
( These are my own thoughts and have no connection with the Royal British Legion, apart from the fact I care. )
