The British Merchant Navy will be represented at the DDay Commemorations in Normandy. A Standard Bearer carrying the Red Ensign will be standing alongside the Royal Navy, RAF and Army in Bayeux Cathedral and the British Cemetery on the 6th June. The British Merchant Navy was recognized as the 4th Service by King George V in the 1st World War. During Operation Overload. 150,000 seamen took part in landing 130,000 men and 20,000 vehicles and supplies on the beaches of Normandy. Many Merchant Navy ships were torpedoed and bombed as they came near to France. Caroline Clopet
