Praise should be during difficult times not only for Doctors and Nurses. We all have to make sacrifices. Salute to all Seafarers, who travel long way to have all your supplies delivered on time. We are exposed to infected areas and deseases, and despite the risks they are obliged and willing to do the job in keeping the world moving.

Given the current situation with COVID-19 we wanted to share an update. The welfare of our volunteers, supporters and staff, along with our ability to maintain our world-class lifesaving service, is our priority.
We have taken the decision to close all RNLI shops, museums and visitor centres with immediate effect. Our lifeboat stations remain operational but will not be open to visitors.
Our lifeboats will continue to launch to those in peril at sea – and they need your support more than ever.

Seafarers UK COVID-19 Update: Business as usual
March 17, 2020Due to the coronavirus outbreak (COVID-19) and the advice from the Government to implement physical distancing, Seafarers UK HQ has transitioned to remote working to ensure that we can continue to support seafarers. Business will carry on as usual with all staff contactable by telephone or email. We will be making every minute count as we explore new ways to fundraise and help those who work at sea. Given the latest advice regarding the Covid19 pandemic, while the Arboretum will remain open, we have decided to cancel all of the Arboretum’s own events and activities until the end of May, including, but not limited to, our VE Day 75 Weekend, Easter family activities, Drive-it Day, Little Saplings, Memory Lane Café and the Plant Hunters’ fairs. We hope to mark VE Day in a responsible way, if possible, on 8 May and will confirm further information in due course. We apologise for any inconvenience this causes but the wellbeing of our visitors and team members is paramount. If you are due to attend a third party organised event during this period, please contact the event organiser to check it is going ahead before travelling to site. Visitors choosing to attend site are encouraged to wash their hands regularly. Ample facilities are available. We remain open and do thank you for your support at this difficult time. In light of the coronavirus pandemic in the UK and France the association has taken the decision to postpone the ADLS 80th Anniversary Commemorative Return to Dunkirk. The decision is taken with a heavy heart but in such unusual and unpredictable circumstance we feel it is the correct course of action. Apostleship of the Sea
Seafarers and fishers will play a pivotal role in responding to, and eventually overcoming, the Coronavirus pandemic. As such, Stella Maris (Apostleship of the Sea) is adapting our provision of welfare services during the pandemic so that seafarers and fishers continue to be supported during this critical time. Whilst our chaplains and ship visitors have stopped ship visiting immediately until further notice, we remain active in providing care and assistance to the People of the Sea in the UK and overseas. “Seafarers and fishers around the world are among the heroes of this pandemic. Our chaplains and ship visitors continue to make themselves available to support the People of the Sea via social media, email, mobile phone and WhatsApp,” stressed Stella Maris CEO Martin Foley. “Our chaplains are putting together support packages for seafarers and fishers comprising faith materials (particularly important for Christian seafarers as Easter approaches), basic toiletries, SIM cards, chocolate, woolly hats and other useful items as well as messages and cards of encouragement. “We will work closely with port authorities to ensure these packages reach seafarers and fishers safely and securely. I would like to thank our supporters who have responded so generously to our request for help with these packages.” Martin added that over the course of the coming days and weeks Stella Maris will also be providing useful information and signposting seafarers and fishers to appropriate resources so they can stay safe, well and positive throughout this uncertain time. While we are rightly applauding all the brave front line workers in our country - spare a thought for those working away from home in our Merchant Navy, bringing in the vital food, medicines and other goods for our country. This may not be a UK citizen, but the dangers they face are all the same.
