Let those who come after see to it that his name be not forgotten".
Some families and loved ones did bury those lost privately without Commemoration. 'Relatives Refused' war graves for many reasons including the delay involved with dealing with officialdom and a desire to lay to rest and eternal peace the person involved or simply for personal or religious reasons etc.
This would account for the many, country wide that are buried without a CWGC Headstone. Others in the case of the Merchant Navy simply did not meet the criteria set for Commemoration. Vast amounts have no known grave but the sea.
Families then apparently had the choice or erecting there own headstone which was known as a PM or Private memorial but in doing so forfeited the right to have it maintained by the Commonwealth War Grave Commission where they would have erected a CH (Commission Headstone). The CWGC , if contacted, may possibly erect a CH now if the family gave permission.'

BARRY (MERTHYR DYFAN) BURIAL GROUND, Glamorganshire.
The cemetery contains war graves of both world wars, the burials of the 1914-1918 War being in various parts of the cemetery. Burials of the 1939-1945 War, 23 of which are in a group in Section R in the north-western corner of the cemetery, and the remainder are to be found elsewhere. There is a man belonging to the National Fire Service, who was buried in the group of war graves. Among the 14 men of the Merchant Navy are four Danish seamen who, with two other Danes, lost their lives in April 1942 in an explosion in the British Merchant vessel S.S. Soborg of Glasgow, in which they were serving. They are buried in the group of war graves. The body of the fifth Danish member of the crew was originally buried here but was later repatriated. The sixth body was not recovered. The names of all six are commemorated on a grey granite memorial which was erected on the empty grave of the repatriated Dane by the Danish Government, and unveiled by the Danish Ambassador in April 1948. The four graves are marked by Commission headstones.
"Many a young seaman sailed from Barry, which in time was perceived to be the gateway to the world. Many sailed fairly safely outside of conflict and generally returned. Others have no known grave but the sea, Barry historically a Merchant sailors’ haven has at rest many that sail no more”.
"Wrap me up in my oil skin and blanket,
No more 'round the docks, I'll be seen,
Just tell me olde shipmates,
I'm takin a trip mates,
and I'll see ya some day in Fiddler's Green"
