Waverley Excursions is feeling nostalgic.
45 years ago today on 22nd May 1975 Waverley carried her first passengers while being operated in preservation following her purchase by the Paddle Steamer Preservation Society (PSPS) for £1 just 9 months before.
This video shows her first sailing as she departed Glasgow as well as other clips from the summer of 1975.
On 22nd May 1975 Waverley carried invited guests & members of the press from Glasgow to Dunoon. As she departed Glasgow the Police pipe band played her off. At that time many wondered if she would survive beyond the summer of 75 but thanks to the continued support of so many people and organisations Waverley has survived well beyond all expectations.
We are still keeping the option of sailing Waverley in 2020 open and are continually reviewing the situation with Covid-19. We will strive to return Waverley to service as soon as possible.
