On This Day: in 1919 the Scapa flow scuttling took place. This was a deliberate act as a German commander ordered the scuttling of 52 German Warships, leading to the deaths of 9 German sailors. During the 1920's and '30s many of the ships were lifted from the sea bed and broken up, however to this day 7 wrecks remain in Scapa Flow. More at: LINK
