Press Release 2010
Based upon an early Merchant Navy - VE Day awareness poster designed for prominent display in windows etc and issued probably via a news paper.

We appeal to the British Media to do something special this year to aid remembrance. 65 years after the hostilities (WW2) ceased, the MN via the Merchant Navy Association and others seek further recognition and remembrance for those that also perished. The forgotten service, they died to save us all.
Merchant Navy Memorial Day - London 2010
The annual Merchant Navy Day Commemorative Service and Reunion at Trinity Square Gardens, Tower Hill, London is to be held on Sunday 5th September 2010. This year marks the 70th anniversary of the tragic loss of life sustained in Britain's worst ever maritime disaster, the sinking of the Troopship Lancastria, 17th June 1940.

It would be appreciated if all National and local newspapers and other media organisations took a little time this year, in advance to plan reports and features, there is much more material available now than ever before and one reporter from all bodies, taking a little time to research and plan now in advance, could help our country truly remember them.
“Let those who come after see to it that his name be not forgotten".
Please help assure this occurs by printing / copying / forwarding or displaying the attachment - to your local media with your own cover letter / like minded people / friends and family or in prominent positions that may be seen by all.

MERCHANT NAVY DAY - September 3rd
Take a little care this day and glance above the tiles,
Perchance to see a flagpole visible for miles,
Atop of it a red flag proudly whipping tight,
A Merchant Navy ensign flying there by right.
From important buildings as well as from the sea.
It’s flown to honour mariners and shipping history,
Sailing through the years, transporting all the freight,
Conserving of the lifelines keeping Britain great.
If you glance aloft and see with knowing eye,
A `duster` at the masthead when you're passing by,
Please inform your offspring while going on to say,
A debt is owed to seamen under colours flown today.
