40 years ago (9-9-1980) today an event took place which shook the shipping world - but has since largely been forgotten.
The bulk carrier MV Derbyshire (Bibby Line) was lost at sea during Typhoon Orchid, south of Japan. All 42 crew members and two of their wives were killed in the sinking. At 91,655 gross registered tons, she is the largest British ship ever to have been lost at sea.More at: LINKToday especially we remember them all.
