VIA: Neutral Shores, Ireland and the Battle of the Atlantic.
October 1942 there was something different in The Western Approaches, heading south at a safe distance from the Irish coast and heavily defended, the convoys comprising the Allied invasion forces of North Africa were departing the UK for their rendezvous at Gibraltar.
Operation Torch, the invasion of Vichy French North Africa was in motion, the first convoy to sail was loaded with stores and equipment, KX-1 sailed from the UK on 02 October, the first troop convoy, KM-1 departed on 22 October. There would be a constant steady flow throughout October of men and material south. Later as the demand grew to maintain the invasion, convoys would be directed straight from the US to North Africa to help sustain the land battles.
