This year on Remembrance Sunday, we will be broadcasting a virtual Act of Remembrance from the Armed Forces Memorial on Facebook and YouTube. This allows as many people as possible to join us as we all remember everyone who has made the ultimate sacrifice in defence of our freedom.
Visitors who pre-book for the morning of 8 November will have the option of watching the Act of Remembrance in person from the base of the Armed Forces Memorial. Please remember, due to Covid-19, the National Memorial Arboretum remains open only to pre-booked visitors for the foreseeable future.
As in previous years, our Armistice Day service on 11 November will be a private service, open to invited guests only. A limited number of tickets will be available to NMA Friends via a ballot (details will be sent directly to members). This service will also be broadcast for the first time on Facebook and YouTube, giving more people than ever before the opportunity to join us as we pay tribute to those killed during the First World War.

Remembrance Day 2020
Due to the ongoing Covid-19 situation and the local lockdown in place, we have explored how we can best commemorate Remembrance Sunday safely this year.
Many towns and councils are cancelling services this year. Having discussed the options with partners, The Royal British Legion, Barry Town Council has decided that it will still commemorate Remembrance Day, but it will be significantly different from previous years.
It is with regret that we will not be able to gather in commemoration with the many organisations, groups and public that annually meet to share their respects; this means that unfortunately, we will not be parading through the town this year, due to restrictions that are currently in place.
There will be a very limited wreath laying service at the Cenotaph which, following guidelines, will be socially distanced and there will be no more than 30 people involved and these will be at the service by invite only. Neither will we be able to hold the indoor service that usually follows the Cenotaph service which is regrettable.
We are asking that people who still wish to pay their own respects but have not been invited to the wreath laying service, visit the Cenotaph after 11:30am in an individual capacity and follow all guidelines in terms of handwashing, face coverings and distancing to keep themselves and the community safe.
The wreath laying service will be streamed live on the Barry Town Mayor’s Facebook page so that anyone who wishes to watch the service can do so virtually.
We hope you understand why we have had to put these plans in place this year.
