VIA: Malcolm Mathison Merchant Navy Day Commemorative Service.I'm sorry to to be the bearer of bad news but, due to the uncertainty of the Covid regulations which may be in force in September, the annual Merchant Navy Day Commemorative Service, Sunday 5th September has been cancelled. We had to consider the risk to health especially for our older veterans, Standard Bearers and those taking part in the parade. who would no doubt get into close contact when greeting friends in Wetherspoons. There would also be an additional risk that major key participants may have to cancel at last minute.

UPDATED.
Instead, to mark Merchant Navy Day. we are planning to hold a small service in the Sunken Garden, at 12:00hrs on Friday 3rd September and without the usual 'pageantry'. There will be no security, band, standards or seating etc., just a small gathering to pay their respects.
We ask that you avoid travelling to this service and, instead, mark the day at your local event. Take care Shipmates and Stay Safe.
Yours aye, Malcolm Mathison, National Chairman, The Merchant Navy Association.
