This week sees the 80th Anniversary of the first Arctic convoy. Codenamed Operation Dervish, the convoy left Liverpool on 12th August 1941 heading for Arkhangelsk in northern Russia. In the next four years, millions of tonnes of supplies and equipment travelled through the treacherous Arctic waters, battling raging seas, freezing weather and constant attacks from German aircraft, U-boats and surface ships.
