There are in the region of 4000 of us now on this site " www.merchant-navy.net/forum/index.php) if not more
Let's target www.bbc.co.uk they have a "contact us" slot at the bottom of the main page, some of you may know a better way to contact them and bombard them with a request to give the MN more prominence on their commentary on Remembrance Sunday or on the 11th if they do it on the 11th this year
It could go something like this, I'm sure there are better people out there to compose it
Director General of the BBC
May we ask you to give the Merchant Navy more prominence within your commentaries on Remembrance Day. The first casualty of World War 2 was a merchant ship, sunk within three hours of war being declared, many lives were lost on this the first casualty of the Battle of the Atlantic" a further 32,000 merchant seamen were lost during the war when they were bringing food and armaments for our defence and survival. On the armada of D Day more than 60 percent of the vessels involved were merchant ships.
We look forward to you remembering these brave men and the survivors of sinkings who went back to sea to serve their country time and time again suffering untold hardships with fortitude and a desire not to be beaten. We owe them a great debt of gratitude.
If we can bombard them on the 8th or 9th November we may get somewhere, if not at least we will have tried
Regards
Ivan
I would hope that all on site would give this both some thought and some action. Please do not hold back and include or give all International, National and Regional press media a shot.
Please further report back on those approached and those that take notice.
