CAPTAIN BEN
Captain Ben was quite well known,
In the ports of Newfoundland.
They were headed for the Cabot Strait,
Captain Ben was in command.
It was a dark and moonless night,
Port Aux Basques was miles away.
A torpedo struck the CARIBOU,
On that cold October day.
When most were sleeping in their bunks,
The explosion rocked the ship.
One hundred thirty six were lost,
For them their final trip.
Captain Ben had lost his life,
Two of his sons as well.
The three of them had crossed the bar,
Beneath the ocean's swell.
