GOD BLESS THE MERCHANT SEAMEN
God bless the merchant seamen, Up the gangway went to war. With a smile and heart to win, Cast off for distant shore.
He left his home and family dear, And their cottage by the sea. Beneath The Old Red Duster, They sailed to keep us free.
When ships were sunk or sinking fast, On sunny days or inky dark. She was the one who stayed behind, To key that warning spark.
They all knew fear and anxious times, Still, they never let us down. Their names survive in memory lists, In the city, in the town.
