On Thursday 28 October, the Royal British Legion (RBL) will be granted the Freedom of the City of Newport as the organisation marks its centenary year.
Proceedings will start at 12 noon when the Regimental Band and Corps of Drums of the Royal Welsh leads a parade from Cambrian Road, through Bridge Street and High Street to the D-Day memorial.
Chief executive Beverly Owen will read out the Freedom Scroll before the Leader, Councillor Jane Mudd, addresses the parade. The Mayor, Councillor David Williams, will hand the scroll to Lieutenant Colonel MJ Harry DL, President of the Gwent Royal British Legion.
After the ceremony, Parade Commander Peter Colsey will request permission from the Mayor to exercise the Royal British Legion's right to parade through the City of Newport.
The participants will make their way from High Street to Westgate Square and through Commercial Street to the junction with Charles Street and Llanarth Street.
