PART I
17-09-1940 Under the command of Captain William Thomas Care the SS. Tregenna was torpedoed by the German submarine U-65 off the Rockall in a position 58 22N 15 42W. She was on a return voyage from Philadelphia to Newport, Monmouthshire with Convoy HX71, with a cargo of 8000 tons of steel at the time of her sinking. Captain William Thomas Care and 32 men were lost, four survivors were picked up.
The year 2010 was meant to be the year that I both remembered and commemorated Tregenna, her master and crew in a most memorable way. For many reasons this could not occur and I attempt now to see 2011 as a culmination of all that I attempt.
Her name was: commenced as a pre computer time paper project and was born of family history. All has been a little ad hoc over the years, as that is what has occurred; unfortunately working full time I do what I do when I can.
My hope is for this year (2011) in particular to file all correctly and to pass on for the future and go through all that I hold hopefully for those that may seek this information in times to come.
The Her Name Was Tregenna web site evolved from the original work and a chance liaison with a fellow relative. Passing all on that I held, Paul was much involved in IT than I and constructed the web site, adding Tregenna to the title of Her Name Was.
Although, this may seem to record and remember more our Kinsale relatives side of the Greenway family, we mention more the Barry Dock connection of her Master: Captain William Thomas Care.

I can only thank Paul for all of his input thus far, I further hope that we at HNW Tregenna will both respect and remember all souls lost. We further attempt to aid and assist all that seek similar.
It is difficult to research and discover much for others without virtually feeling much involved, So whether Lucey of Kinsale, Luen of Barry and the many more we continue to find, what can be found on the lives of the many. RIP.
Her Name Was had it not evolved as it has could have carried the name of Daybreak or Dudley Rose and remember more my Great Grandfather Thomas Greenway or his son James Joseph, we tend to try and remember all.
Although both Barry Dock and Kinsale herself are close to me, with all respect to the many, it would be to difficult not to include all we find and know more of. Behind every name carved in stone, there was a person, a life, a family, loved ones and relatives. We aim to remember all.
2011 will see much achieved, A remembrance / commemoration of an old paddler built for and named after Barry, a working model launched at or near her date of demise.
In the main I have found you really have to work at remembrance, please both help and join me in what I attempt.
