Royal British Legion - Paris FranceWe are very pleased that the Standard Bearer for the British Merchant Navy will be present at our 11th November Remembrance Ceremony in Les Invalides in Paris. It is important to remember the sacrifice of the Seamen of the Merchant Navy, who brought troops, weapons and supplies to the war zones in both World Wars, and the Falklands. By the end of the First World War, more than 3,000 British flagged merchant and fishing vessels had been sunk and nearly 15,000 merchant seamen had died. During the Second World War, 4,700 British-flagged ships were sunk and more than 29,000 merchant seamen died.
